UUJO is looking for a new Executive Director ...

This is a part-time (15-20 hours per week), hourly paid position to begin no earlier than August 1st and no later than December 1st of 2016. For more information on qualifications and responsibilities, see below. The Director may work from anywhere in Ohio and travel for meetings in Columbus several times a year. UUJO is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Responsibilities:  
  • Carry out priority tasks identified by the UUJO Board of Directors, working with a part time Administrator and in collaboration with the Board and other volunteers.

  • Administer hiring, orientation, training, oversight, and performance evaluation of UUJO Administrator.

  • Plan, prepare, and conduct statewide and regional UUJO meetings and events in collabortion with the Board of Directors, including an annual Justice Assembly and an annual public witness event, Guests for Justice in Your Pulpit, training workshops, webinars, scholarships.

  • Participate in Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings as an ex officio member and contribute  to planning and preparation for those meetings.

  • Financial management, including grant applications, reports to funders, budget planning and administration, accounting for income and expenses, tax reporting, and management of bank accounts.

  • Manage issues campaigns as identified and approved by the Board of Directors.

  • Prepare UUJO governance documents, policies, and practices in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

  • Provide support for Board of Directors officers and members.

  • Provide membership development and services for Justice Congregations, UUJO congregational liaisons, and Justice Advocates.

  • Oversee UUJO issue action teams, and advocacy and regional groups.

  • Promote information exchanges by means of the website, Google groups, Facebook postings, and other social media as appropriate.

  • Develop and send monthly newsletters and special announcements/alerts by email and other means as appropriate.

  • Respresent UUJO in relations with other Unitarian Universalist organizations, including groups within Ohio and multistate groups that include Ohio, such as the Unitarian Universalist State Action Networks, the Unitarian Universalist Association, and the Unitarian Universalist regions that include Ohio.

  • Represent UUJO in relations with public officials and statewide faith-based and secular organizations.

  • Facilitate information exchange and collaboration among Unitarian Universalists working with congregationally based community organizations.

  • Carry out other responsibilities identified by the UUJO Board of Directors.

Qualifications:
  • Organizational skills and experience in membership development.

  • Ability to develop financial resources, including writing grants and pursuing UUJO memberships and contributions.

  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, writing and listening skills.

  • Administrative experience relevant to running a nonprofit organzation, including financial issues, staff supervision, marketing, and policy policy management.

  • Leadership skills and experience, including the ability to inspire others to action.

  • Ability to adapt to changing contexts while providing consistency with long-range organizational goals.

  • Knowledge and understanding of legal, legislative, and community organizing processes, especially as the relate to Ohio issues.

  • Ability to articulate the moral imperative of Unitarian Universalist values in Ohio public policy.

  • Collaborative skills and experience.

  • Passion for and experience in effecting positive social change consistent with Unitarian Universalist principles and values.

  • Available to travel as necessary throughout Ohio and devote sufficient time to UUJO.

  • Ability to articulate a vision that is consistent with the vision of the Board of Directors and that will move UUJO forward.
